The many advantages of long hair


For over a millenium, and well into the 20th century, women wouldn't have dreamt of cutting their hair. Hair was considered a woman's glory, the longer the better. Beginning in the World War II era, women began to work outside the home. For purely practical reasons, as well as a symbolic gesture of modernity, women began sporting shorter cuts. During the 1960s and 1970s, there was a resurgence in the popularity of long hair. Then came the 1980s, when long hair was again passe, with shorter, styled hair the norm once again.

Today, most women spend a considerable sum of money maintaining their hair style. Layered and shorter styles require a trim and shaping about every six weeks to keep your do looking good. Some of us keep on going to the salon just because there's always that awkward stage of growing layered hair back to an even length. Have you considered dispensing with your expensive, albeit pampering salon services? This hair maintenance routine costs both time and money. Besides, long hair has so much going for it, in both practicality and versatility. If you're still not convinced, did you know that most men find long hair romantic and sexy?

With long hair, you need only trim the ends every couple of months. If you have someone who can take five minutes to help you, you need never visit a salon for hair cutting services. All you need is a good shampoo, conditioner, hairbrush and the daily hundred strokes. Long hair, because it's all one length, has a lot more shine than a layered cut. True, it's an optical illusion, but shine is good.

As for styles, you can easily change your look every day for a week without repetition. Well brushed, your hair looks sleek and lovely worn just as it is, with no styling at all. Ponytails are great for tennis, gardening or housework. A rounded-comb hair band pulls hair away from the forehead for a more sophisticated look, with no hair falling in your face. Regular hair combs and barrettes can be positioned on the sides of your head or nape of the neck for more casual occasions. French braids are lovely and romantic, the more so when braided with ribbons throughout. Combs and barrettes can be used in conjunction with various up-dos for a romantic evening look. Long hair is set off exceptionally well when worn with a wide-brimmed hat trimmed with a long scarf band. Men eat up these romantic looks. Guinevere, the knight in shining armor and all those sorts of notions.

Long hair invites a full complement of hair ornaments in your dressing table drawer. It's fun creating your own new looks. You get a lovely new look every day, you save time and money, and men notice your hair. How much better can it get?
