Houston Galleria Mall

The Uptown District in Houston is proud of its popular Houston Galleria Mall, which opened in 1970. The complex houses America's fourth largest shopping center and largest in Texas and receives more than 24 million visitors every year. In addition to the mall, there are the three office towers in the Galleria Financial Center, two Westin hotels, a full size ice rink and a private health club. The center is a favorite destination of local residents and tourists to the state.

The architecture of the complex is much admired. The stores are laid out under glass atriums and cover three floors. The stylish design was inspired by the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan. Shoppers can relax in comfortable leather seating. There have been three expansions to the original Houston Galleria Mall. More amenities were added during the 1970s, the 1980s and the latest expansion to the retail center was completed in 2003.

Many well known stores are located here, including Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom. There is also Frost Bros and Borders Book and Music. With more than 375 stores and restaurants, there is plenty of choice. Followers of designer labels and luxury goods will not be disappointed at the Houston Galleria Mall as it hosts Cartier, Gucci, Tiffany & Co., the Ralph Lauren Collection, and Louis Vuitton. Local fashion houses are also represented.

Dedicated shoppers also need a break and refreshments. The mall has about 50 different restaurants, cafes and specialty food stores, providing meals and snacks. These suit any budget and include fast food outlets, steakhouses, seafood restaurants and grill houses. World cuisine is also available at Chinese, French and Mexican restaurants. There are also Italian venues serving pizza and pasta.

The mall's opening hours are convenient for anyone wanting to visit after work and it is open on seven days a week. Monday to Saturday is 10 am - 9 pm and Sunday is 11 am - 7 pm. The Houston Galleria Mall sells Gift Cards for the shopping center, an ideal present for friends or family. These can be purchased at various locations within the mall or online and are available in different denominations. Shoppers requiring a wheel chair are provided with one. There are plenty of parking spaces and valet parking is available at certain locations. For visitors going or returning by taxi, there is a cab stand at the Westin Oaks Hotel.
